Omero File Capture Method

I'm trying to determine if Omero is the right package for me for microscopy image management, and I was curious if the only method to get data into the app was to use the Omero Importer tool.

Is it possible to simply have a microscope write its data to a server share and then those files are automatically populated into Omero?

Sorry for what is likely a very obvious question, but I didn't find the data easily available browsing through the site (or perhaps I just managed to overlook it).

Also, how easy it is to maintain the app? After setup and install, the hope is that it would be a fairly hands-off item from the IT perspective. Does that sound about right for people who have used the app?

There is some support for automatic importing, DropBox, but at present it is limited to files that are on the same filesystem as the OMERO server. There are also some prerequisites on the OS. The details of DropBox can be found at:
