OpenJDK vs Oracle's JDK

Hi

I'm trying to install the omero server Beta 4.1.1 on a CentOS 5.5 system. I've searched around the forum and found some users reporting errors because they were using OpenJDK rather than Oracle's java but not many, were not really new posts and mostly on the client side. Also, this stickyed entry which reposrts using OpenJDK gives me hope.

I just would like to confirm if that's OK to use OpenJDK and ask if I should expect some problem (some specific feature that won't work, or work slower).

Thanks in advance

There shouldn't be problems using OpenJDK for the server in particular. However, we don't test as thoroughly on that platform so if you do have problems they may be subtle. In short, unless you really must use OpenJDK and have a reason for doing so use the Oracle JDK.
