11.10 ships with ICE 3.4.2. Has anyone built the 3.3.1 package for oneiric or successfully installed the 3.3 packages from the debian squeeze repo? Thanks

Hi, I have been looking into this for you.

Currently the Ice 3.3.x packages do not work with Ubuntu 11.10 which is unfortunate. I have tried installing packages from various older repos as well as building the src from the Ubuntu & Debian repos but they all fail with various dependency related issues.

My current suggestions are:
(1) Build ice 3.3.1 and required dependencies from src on Ubuntu 11.10, or
(2) If possible, use an earlier version of Ubuntu that still has the correct Ice version

I know that this is not ideal and will try to find a better solution but wanted to give you some feedback as to where we are at.

NB. OMERO 4.4 which is tentatively scheduled for release at the end of May will support Ice 3.4.x and so should make this issue moot.

Sorry I just realized I never responded to this. You reply was very helpful. We are just deploying on Ubuntu 11.04 for now and will migrate to 12.04 after 4.4 releases. Thanks!
