OMERO server on virtual Linux server

Postby albot » Fri Dec 23, 2011 10:30 am

Hi,

We would like to start a OMERO pilot project for around 10 scientists. At a later stage, we would reckon to have around 30-50 users.

We planned to start the pilot project with a virtual Linux server instead of a physical machine.

Do you have any experience with such a setup - would the OMERO server go down more easily if it's not installed on a physical machine?

Would it be easy to move to a physical machine at a later stage when more users join?

Thanks a lot for your comments.

Cheers,
Alexander

Hi Alexander-

Certainly a good idea to run tests first.

See:

http://www.openmicroscopy.org/site/supp ... appliance/

If that doesn't provide what you need, let us know.

The virtual application should run as normal-- whether it can support your test really depends on the configuration you choose- and what the users do. Running on that scale has worked well in our tests-- YMMV. Note that all of our production instances are on physical hardware.

You might check the page on OMERO Maintenance for information on backing up and restoring OMERO data:
