performance in virtualised environments

Hi Folks,

We are contemplating implementing OMERO in a VM environment - most likely VMWare on *nix (most likely Centos). I'm curious if anyone has attempted this and has a sense of any performance trade-offs.

where are the bottle necks in a VM'd instance? are they different to a physical install, and to what extent can they be mitigated by throwing hardware at the problem...

Hi

There shouldn't be any difference between running OMERO in a VM vs hardware as long as your hosts are setup correctly, i.e. you've allocated sufficient resources and you aren't trying to run too many VMs simultaneously.
