connection problem

Postby MidM » Thu Jan 21, 2010 11:13 am

Hi,

I am trying to set up a OMERO server in our lab, as a trail version, so far, I set it up in a windows workstaion (win XP3), and relative application PostGreSQL 8.4.2-1, JDK se 1.6, Ice 3.3.1, activepython2.5.4.4 and Omero-beta4.1.1.win .

There is no problem for server installation and service start, the problem is I cannot login with OMERO.Client-Beta 4.1.1.win (either importer or insight) from another win XP2 or win xp3 machine. The error message is "Incorrect username/password. Server login failed, please try to log in again." However, I can log in from the same machine (server installed) using client importer or insight without any problem.

it is assumed to be the network problem or firewall. All client machine are in same workgroup (windows platforms in Novell network) with Sophos antivirus. I have Not found any thread here talking about this problem (maybe omit), specially both server and client are win system.

Can anyone help me with this problem? any suggestion would be appreciated. many thanks.

ps .

I have tried another client machine (ubuntu 9.10- the Karmic Koala) to connect server, again , the same problem, cannot log in with message "incorrect username/password".

That's great. If you're curious about the exact ports required to narrow things down you can find them here:

Hi there,
I am having a similar problem:
Our OMERO server works great, and web connection is smooth from everywhere. However, with Insight clients, while some machines connect without any problem, some (Windows as well as Ubuntu) cannot connect (while on the same subnetwork in the lab), with message indicated above: Failed to log onto OMERO. Please check your user name and/or password or try again later.
I know user names and passwords are correct, since connection through Firefox is fine.
The link https://www.openmicroscopy.org/site/sup ... r/security is dead, so I cannot look there for suggestion.
Any idea would be welcome.

Hi Philippe,

which version of the OMERO.server are you currently deploying? If this happens using the Insight client but OMERO.web connects fine, it is likely you are hitting the issue related to the recent Java upgrade.

To solve this issue, you could either patch your current server as described in the blog post linked above or upgrade the server to the latest 5.1.3 release.

Let us know if this fixes your connection problem,

You were right.
Java upgrade was the culprit (pfff...). The patch did it.
Thanks!

Glad to hear it was the issue and that the patch was successful.
