chown functionality status

Postby dtrudg » Wed Mar 04, 2015 10:41 pm

Hi,

We're trying to work out whether it's possible/feasible for an imaging core to use our OMERO instance in a manner where they upload files for users, then 'hand-off' the files to the users. They'd prefer to be able transfer ownership rather than share via group access since they want the user to be in control of removing files, and disk usage in OMERO to be attributed to the user etc.

I came across a previous thread mentioning chown functionality, and was wondering if this has matured, so an ownership change could be scripted?

http://www.openmicroscopy.org/community ... ilit=chown

That thread also mentions importing as another user, but presumably this is something only admins can do? The core staff cannot have full admin rights over the repository - which will be used various other groups.

Any hints gratefully appreciated :) !

We were hoping to have the chown functionality in place for 5.1.0 but that wasn't possible. The current plan is to try to get it into one of the follow-up patch releases. Stay tuned!

Another feature coming in the 5.1 series will be to have group owners, and eventually special "import" users, import into their group for others.

Cheers,
~Josh.

That's great news, thanks for the info. Looks like we'll be able to provide all of our potential users with their preferred worfklows once that functionality is in.

Thanks again,

Hi Dave
The functionality to "import as" for groups owners has been added to the client.
This will be available in the coming 5.1.0 release, scheduled to be out in few weeks.
The new importer role mentioned by Josh in his previous post will not be available in 5.1

Cheers

Hi,

as mentioned in a previous thread, the chown functionality would also be very important for us, so I just wanted to add my voice here. If possible, please include this asap, we had numerous events now were I had to reimport images just to "give" them to a user.

Cheers,

Tristan

Assuming all goes as planned, we'll finalize an initial point release (5.1.1) toward the end of April. The chown functionality will not be included in that release, but we intend to get it in as soon afterwards as possible.

Thanks for the feedback.
