I am considering using OMERO to manage images where they are not all held on line but some are archived (and backuped up) to slower media. Does anybody have any experience of this please? The postgres DB would need to know which data had been archived.

The only product I've heard of in this direction is Dax Archiving, which was built to work with Columbus.

There was also investigation done at Helsinki on integration with iRODS which may be interesting:
