Mac OS X 10.6.5

Postby brandon.scott » Tue Nov 16, 2010 9:40 pm

It seems that the new mac OS update is incompatible with OMERO. I realize that the new OMERO version came out a few days ago, and it was the first time we have had it working, but now we are looking in from the outside again. Will the quickest way to get this resolved just be to try and reinstall the previous version of OSx? Few technical notes...
We are using beta 4.2.1, and was using mac OSx 10.6.4, now 10.6.5, The error is a python version mismatch error.

Any help would be appreciated.

Several of our developers run Mac OS X as their primary platform, myself included, and are currently running OMERO on 10.6.5 without any issue. As far as we're aware the Python version wasn't modified at all between 10.6.4 and 10.6.5. Could you be specific as to where you're getting the Python version mismatch from Brandon?

I noticed it today when I was unable to login to insight, so then i tried to access it from the command line.
and this is the result.

:Current omero$ bin/omero
Fatal Python error: Interpreter not initialized (version mismatch?)
Abort trap

I had this problem in the past, or a similar one. I did the following to ensure that python was 64bit.

:~ adhoppe$ python
Python 2.6.1 (r261:67515, Jun 24 2010, 21:47:49)
[GCC 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5646)] on darwin
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import sys; sys.maxint
9223372036854775807

That's all the troubleshooting I have had a chance to do so any feedback would be great.

All I can think of then is that something in your library path got messed up when you performed the 10.6.4 to 10.6.5 upgrade. Can you run import Ice from a Python shell?

Thanks for the reply. I tried to import ice in python and I receive the same error.

adam-hoppes-mac-pro:~ omero$ env
OMERO_TEMPDIR=/var/lib/omero/tmp
TERM=xterm-color
SHELL=/bin/bash
USER=omero
PATH=/Library/PostgreSQL/8.4/bin:/Library/Ice/3.3/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/sw/bin:/sw/sbin:/usr/X11/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin
PWD=/Users/omero
SHLVL=1
HOME=/Users/omero
DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=/Library/Ice/3.3/lib
PYTHONPATH=/Library/Ice/Current/python:/Library/Omero/Current/lib/python
ICE_HOME=/Library/Ice/3.3
OMERO_HOME=/Library/Omero/Current/
_=/usr/bin/env
adam-hoppes-mac-pro:~ omero$ python
Python 2.6.1 (r261:67515, Jun 24 2010, 21:47:49)
[GCC 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5646)] on darwin
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import Ice
Fatal Python error: Interpreter not initialized (version mismatch?)
Abort trap
adam-hoppes-mac-pro:~ omero$

So I guess i may just need to reinstall python?
Thanks

ugh Apple why do you hate me???

Some how it changed my python to a previous version after the update, but I was able to change python back to the correct version and now OMERO works once again.

Thanks for the info about my problem it really led me down the right path.
