Insight Client connection failures OS X and Java 8 Update 51

We've noticed that OS X 10.9 clients upgrading Java to the latest (8u51) version can't connect to Omero using the Insight client. Java 8u45 seemed to work just fine. We are using Insight v5.1.2 Ice35 b45 against Omero server 5.1.2 ice34 b45.

Anyone else seeing this and if so, any workarounds?

Hi Rick,

Many thanks for bringing this to the attention of the community.

The OMERO team are able to replicate this behaviour for the OSX client, with a variety of Linux and OSX servers. This is entered now in the OME Trello at https://trello.com/c/tQ5dbzp1/73-java-8u50, and Trac ticketing system at https://trac.openmicroscopy.org.uk/ome/ticket/12968, and this will certainly be the focus of our attention till we've figured out what's going on.

We would appreciate hearing from anyone else using different client platforms (Linux, Windows) who are also seeing this with Java 8u51.

Hi Rick,

A workaround to the Java upgrade security issue has been found. It requires your system administrator to patch a configuration setting. Please refer to http://blog.openmicroscopy.org/tech-iss ... ava-issue/ for details.
