Does any one know if it's possible to track or trace the evolution of an image back to it's original settings?

Hi Cindy,

are you looking to do this in one of the clients or via a script or....? The original rendering settings can be stored in the DB, and have been made available in Insight, so I think what you're asking should be possible, but I'm not yet sure how to help. Any info on what you're wanting to see / accomplish would be appreciated.

Thanks.

This is something I want to see in Insight (just so you know, I'm not a computer person. They've made me a test subject for this program for that reason). Let's say you have this image. It's the original, not adjustments or editing has been done yet. The user makes changes to the original image and saves these changes. Is there a way to go back and see the original image without loosing the changes? Does that make sense?
Thank you!

Hi Cindy

We use to have an option in insight keeping track of the changes you were making when editing the image.
A series of thumbnail was displayed in the history section, this approach was, at time, slowing down the viewer.
you can already go back to the settings when you first view the image in insight by clicking "set to original settings", if you don't save this will not modify the adjusted image.
You can go back to those settings by clicking on the "reset" button.

If I understand correctly what you say, you would like to have the ability to see the adjusted image in the main viewer and on the right-hand side (for example next to rendering control) the original/unmodified image so you can compare.
The server already allows to same multiple rendering settings for a image. That's certainly a functionality we need to expose in the client.

By original, do you mean the image when first displayed in insight or the image with full range of pixels intensity displayed (i.e. start=min, and end =max cf. insight control)

Thanks for your comments

Yes...this is a feature I think a lot of users would be interested in. By original, I do mean as originally displayed in insight. I just want to be able to keep track of changes made to the original data.
Thank you,
Cindy

Thank you. We've been talking about this a lot because it pertains to the original data source. Let's say a PI exports an image from OMERO, makes it pretty in Imaris or Image J, and then imports back into OMERO. They need an easy way to link back to the original .lsm (or whatever) file if they publish this image.

Thank you!
